2022 Distinguished Dairy Cattle Breeder Award

Ridge View Farm

The Droste’s established Ridge View Farm in 2006. Both Mike and Jennie came from dairy backgrounds, both breeding Ayrshires. Jennie was raised on the Scoon Dairy farm in Downing, Missouri and Mike grew up in Waverly, Iowa.

Ridge View Farm sits on 370 acres that includes about 150 acres of corn for silage and around 80 acres for hay. Their Ayrshire herd includes 75-100 cows and 150 replacement heifers. Mike and Jennie focus mainly on grazing their herd and the cows do receive TMR year around. Their bulk tank averages 50 lbs with 4.2 fat and 3.5 protein content.

Showing Ayrshires is a passion and family tradition, in fact this is how Mike and Jennie met! The family has shown cattle for many years at the local, state and national level. They have bred several All American and Reserve All American animals. One of their homebred’s, Ridge View Burdette Jazzy, won Grand and Supreme Champion at the Missouri State Fair; Grand Champion at the Iowa State Fair; and Supreme Champion at the National Cattle Congress in Waterloo, Iowa. In addition, they have won Junior and Reserve Junior Champion over the years as well.

Mike and Jennie are also very supportive of their local fair and dairy show. Jennie has served as dairy superintendent for ten plus years and served on the local fair board. She has also served as president of the fair board.

Mike and Jennie also provide classes for regional 4-H and FFA dairy judging contests and serve as officials when the need arises. Jennie is also readily available to judge the county dairy shows in the surrounding area when she is called. They are also passionate about supporting the dairy youth programs. The Droste’s have been members of the Missouri Ayrshire Breeders Association for many years and have hosted the state picnic. Both are involved with the local FFA Alumni and FFA chapter. Jennie is also active in the school PTO program.

Mike and Jennie have three children, Shaelyn, Clayton, and Tyson. All three children are involved on the farm with daily chores, along with Jennie’s dad, Chuck Scoon.
