Donald and Betty June Waterman
Donald and Betty June Waterman owned JuDon’s Guernsey Farm in Williamstown, Missouri. They were Guernsey breeders for over 35 years, milking 60 head on 260 acres in Lewis County, Missouri. They worked diligently to develop a purebred, registered dairy herd.
The Waterman’s showed their Guernsey cattle at the Missouri and Iowa state fairs, the World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wisconsin, as well as several county and district fairs. In 1985, they had a bred and owned junior heifer calf, JuDon’s Mara Gidget who took first place at the Missouri State Fair and stood fifth at the World Dairy Expo. That same year, another cow, JuDon’s Monique Peggy, was also exhibited at the World Dairy Expo. In 1989, they bred their first excellent 90-point cow, JuDon’s Dolly Ozelma.
Donald and Betty June had a TPE herd and sold heifers to other dairy farms in multiple states. They were producers for Prairie Farms Dairy in Quincy, Illinois for almost 20 years and received the Annual Prairie Farms Premier Dairyman Award in recognition of Superior Quality Milk Production for over 10 years running.
Donald and Betty June were members of the American Guernsey Association and the Missouri Guernsey Breeders Association. Donald served on the District 1 MGBA board. They were also named the Lewis County Farm Family at the Missouri State Fair in 1959.
The Waterman’s were very active in their church. Donald was ordained as a deacon at Providence Baptist Church in 1969. He went on to be ordained as a pastor in 1992 and they served churches in Alexandria, Wayland and Greentop. Betty June also worked in the church as a Sunday School teacher, VBS leader and WMU. They were both active 4-H leaders at the club and county level.
Donald passed away in 2004 and Betty June in 2007. The Waterman’s have three children: Donald E. Waterman of Columbia, Missouri; Vanitta Conrad of Salt Lake City, Utah and Paula Schlager of Linn Creek, Missouri. They also have seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
