Carl W. Schneider, Cosby, Missouri
Carl W. Schneider, Cosby, Missouri, a lifetime dairy farmer and widely recognized leader in the dairy field, was presented the 1980 Dairy Leadership Award during the Missouri Dairymen’s Institute held in Columbia, March 20 to 22.
The award is presented annually by The Association of Missouri Dairy Organizations. Mr. Schneider received a beautiful plaque and his picture will be hung in The Dairy Hall of Honors, Eckles Hall, University of Missouri, Columbia.
Carl and his wife Vesta live on the same farm, near Cosby, where he was born and reared. They have seven children—four sons and three daughters. Carl and his two sons, Fred and Bill, operate the 450 acre farm and the dairy herd consisting of about 200 registered Holsteins with 120 cows in milk. He has been a grade A Dairy producers since 1946.
Mr. Schneider has been active in farm organization affairs for over 35 years. He is a quiet unassuming man, never campaigning for an office, but whose judgement and leadership abilities are widely sought. In 1972 he was elected the first president of Midland United Dairy Industries Association, a milk marketing cooperative covering the Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska and Missouri area. He continues in that capacity. His activities in other farm organization include:
- 1955 to 1968 – Board, St. Joseph Milk Producers Assn.
- 1956 to 1972 – Board Member American Dairy Association of Missouri
- 1958 to 1964 – County FHA Committee
- 1968 to 1972 – State Board Mo. Farm Bureau
Member all Andrew Farm Bureau Committees for over 25 years. Member, State Milk Board (regulatory) for past 7 years. President, Missouri Holstein-Friesian Ass’n, 1976-1978. Board member, Missouri DHI Federation for 6 years. Delegate to the National Dairy Herd Improvement Ass’n, 1974 to the present time.
He has received the Balance Farming Award, for his county and the Western Missouri District. He was also chosen for the Farmer of the year Award by the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Schneider serves as a board member and secretary of the local school board; Advisory Committee UMC North Missouri Experimental Farm, and he is active in Mid-America Dairy Cooperative.
The Schneiders are members of the Hope United Church of Christ, where he is chairman of the congregation, Elder, Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School Teacher.
