Henry G. LePage (1900-1978), Jefferson City, Missouri
Henry LePage was a well know breeder of Brown Swiss cattle. He was a member of the Brown Swiss Cattle Breeders Association and led the way in organizing the Missouri Brown Swiss Cattle Breeders Association. Henry served as president of the state association and throughout the years was active in Canton, State and National Brown Swiss activities.
Mr. LePage lived on his farm at Scott Road near his Jefferson City birthplace. He began his public career as secretary-treasurer of his local farm club and in 1920 was elected Secretary-Treasurer of the Cole County Farm Bureau. He resigned that post to run as a Republican candidate for Cole County Recorder of Deeds. He was elected and served as recorder for 52 years. His campaign slogan was “a farmer with the ability to fill the office.” He also served as Secretary and as President of the State Association of Recorders. Henry helped to organize and was one of the directors of the Jefferson Bank of Missouri and he served 41 years as a director of the Capital Savings and Loan Association.
Henry is remembered as a humorous, but serious-thinking person. He seldom forgot a face or a name. Henry and his wife of more than 50 years had five sons and one daughter. His son Tom E. and grandson Tom are active Brown Swiss Breeders at Russellville, Missouri.
