Nelson Kapp, Cosby, Missouri

Nelson Kapp, Cosby, Missouri, has spent many years as a dedicated leader in Missouri’s dairy industry. He started his dairy after serving his country in World War II. He was born in 1919. In the forty years he spent as a dairyman, Nelson has been in a dairy leadership capacity thirty-two years. He began as a director of St. Joseph Milk Producers in 1952, serving on the board 16 years; the last four years as President of the Board.

In 1968, when St. Joseph Milk Producers became a part of Mid-America Dairyman, Nelson was elected to the Board of Mid-Am. He was instrumental in the merger of the St. Joseph association into Mid-Am. In 1970 he was elected to the Corporate Board of Mid America Dairymen, in which capacity he serves at the present time. Nelson has served on many committees in Mid-Am and has been on the finance committee since 1976, serving as secretary.

On the Kansas City Division, he has served as Chairman of the Board. Among his duties have been, 12 years on the Dairy Council Board, Chairman of Federal Order No. 64 the last eight years, and on the Federal Order Check off committee since the promotional program has been in effect. He is also a delegate to the United Dairy Industries Association. Nelson was active in the American Dairy Association of Missouri and served as a Board member eight years. He helped organize Midland United Dairy Industry Association. He has been active in Midland since it was organized and is now Secretary of the Board. He served two years on the Board of National Milk Producers Federation and is presently a delegate.

Nelson served seven years on the Dairy Advisory Committee of the Missouri College of Agriculture and he served four years on the Dairy Committee of Missouri Farm Bureau. He is also serving on the Board of Missouri Institute of Cooperatives.

Nelson, with his wife Bernice and sons, Meredith and Stanley operate Triple K Farms; consisting of 600 acres owned and 600 acres rented. They produce 300 acres of corn, 250 acres soybeans, 100 acres wheat and 150 acres hay, and the rest in pasture.

Registered dairy cattle are the principle production of Triple K Farms. They milk around 80 cows and quite regularly have class leaders in the local DHI. They also finish hogs.

Nelson is past president of Northwest Missouri Holstein Association and has served on state Holstein committees. He has also served as Supt. of Dairy at the county fair, 4-H and local events. The Kapps are members of the National Holstein Association and the Missouri Holstein Association.

He has long been an active, dedicated leader in the Zion United Methodist Church, as well as in schools, the community, Cosby Lions Club, and Cosby Fair Association.

Nelson has contributed many hours to the benefit of his fellow man, with sincere devotion to his family, his community, his dairy organizations and his country.
