Fred Johnson, Pleasant Hope

Fred Johnson has lived on a 312-acre farm on the Pomme de Terre River near Pleasant Hope since he was four years old. His farming operation includes the 312 acres plus 500 rented acres. The Johnson dairy herd includes 55 Holsteins and he also has 75 beef cows plus 60 head of young stock. His cropping operations includes 50 acres of alfalfa, 55 acres of com, 200 acres of grass hay, and other grain crops.

The Polk County farmer has spent all but seven years of his life on the farm. Fred attended Southwest Missouri State University for a year before serving in the U.S. Army with 13 months service in Germany.

Fred is member of the corporate board of directors of Mid-America Dairymen. In addition to his responsibilities as chair of the marketing committee for the corporate board, Fred is a director for Special Products Inc., the advisory group for Mid-America Farms and the partnership committee of Western Foods Processing. He also serves as secretary for the Mid-Am Southern Division board of directors and is chair of the hauling committee of the Southern Division’s region five.

In his community, Fred has served on the Polk County Extension Council, as secretary of the Polk County DHIA, and as a member of the local ASCS committee.

Fred is a deacon of the Pleasant Hope Baptist Church and also is church clerk and a Sunday School teacher.
