Teter, Tarpey awarded dairy scholarships
The Missouri Dairy Hall of Honors announces that it has awarded Jordan Teter and Anna Tarpey $1,500 scholarships for their senior year of study at the University of Missouri, Columbia.
Both students in MU’s animal science program completed three years of studies including dairy courses. They plan to pursue careers in a dairy-related field in the future. Teter hails from Atlanta, Missouri. The daughter of Steve and Cindy Teter, she decided to major in animal sciences after “meeting some great professors at Mizzou.”
Tarpey’s hometown is Wildwood, Missouri. Her parents are Dan and Rhonda Tarpey. She worked at Purina Animal Nutrition’s Research Farm as a research technician in the dairy calf unit for two summers. She also served as president of MU Dairy Club during her sophomore and junior year. She works as a student farm assistant at MU Foremost Dairy Research Farm and served as dairy ambassador for the Midwest Dairy Association last year.
To qualify for the scholarship, students must complete three years of studies including dairy-related courses at any Missouri college or university and plan to pursue a career in a dairy-related field.
“Both of these students had excellent applications and strong letters of support,” says Dave Cochard, foundation board member.
“They were precisely the quality of student targeted for possessing a sincere interest in a dairy-related field of endeavor that the Missouri Dairy Hall of Honors was hoping to encourage with this scholarship,” says Cochard.
Established in 1988, the Missouri Dairy Hall of Honors Foundation recognizes and honors individuals whose leadership and outstanding contributions over their lifetime significantly improved the Missouri dairy industry.
“Missouri Dairy Hall of Honors’ college scholarships encourage upperclassmen who demonstrate the potential to become future leaders and contributors to the Missouri dairy industry,” says Kate Geppert, President of the Missouri Dairy Hall of Honors Foundation.
Two Springfield, Missouri Foundation member companies – F&H and Hiland Dairy – funded the scholarships. “Both companies are strong advocates for the dairy industry in Missouri and we are grateful for their support of dairy education,” says Joe Horner, MU Extension dairy economist and foundation board member ex-officio.
